Dr Hannah North
Ear, Nose & Throat Surgeon | MBBS (Hons), BMedSci, MS, FRACS
A qualified surgeon with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Dr North looks forward to meeting you to help you with your ear, nose and throat problems.
Hannah grew up in Sydney and went on to study Medical Science and Medicine at The University of Sydney graduating with honours in 2005. She trained in Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery with the College of Surgeons rotating across Sydney including St Vincents Hospital, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Royal North Shore Hospital.
Awarded a Project Grant for her Masters of Surgery project in conjunction with The Ear Institute at University College London and The University of Sydney, Hannah researched the development of inner ear hair cells, specifically the Notch cell signalling pathway. She loves teaching and has previously been a Conjoint Lecturer with The University of New South Wales, she now teaches medical students with The University of Sydney at the Westmead Clinical School and The Children's Hospital at Westmead. She is heavily involved with training registrars in her roles both at Westmead Hospital and Children's Hospital at Westmead.
It was working at Great Ormond St Hospital in London where she loved helping children and their families and was inspired to complete a post training fellowship under the guidance of Shyan Vijayasekaran and the ENT Department at Princess Margaret Hospital for Children in Perth from 2014-2015.
Wanting to develop her skills further in more complex ear surgery she completed a second post training fellowship with Simon Freeman and Simon Lloyd in the UK at The Manchester Skull Base Unit from 2015-2016. It was here that she honed her skills in complex revision ear surgery, hearing implants and lateral skull base surgery in one of the largest Otology and Skull Base Centres in the UK.
Furthering her exposure, Hannah has visited the Causse Ear Clinic in Beziers, France to learn up to date hearing reconstruction surgery of the middle ear and Professor Marchioni in Verona, Italy to concentrate on endoscopic ear surgery techniques. She has also completed the Advanced Surgeons Course with the Institute of Cochlear Implant Training in Valencia, USA.
Hannah returned to her home city of Sydney at the end of 2016 to start working at Westmead Hospital and The Children's Hospital at Westmead. She sees patients in the rooms at Norwest Private Hospital in Bella Vista. She operates at Westmead Hospital, Children's Hospital at Westmead, Westmead Private Hospital, Norwest Private Hospital and Lakeview Private Hospital.
